Pastor Bob Hallman

As a young boy growing up in Hawaii, one of the furthest things from Bob’s mind was becoming a pastor!  Once, when he was 10 and leaving church, his pastor laid his hand on Bob’s head and said, “God has a call on your life for full-time ministry!”  Bob’s private reaction was, “That’ll be the day!”  He spent the next seven years ignoring that call while pursuing sports and academics.  But at age 17, realizing he was still unfulfilled despite numerous achievements and influenced by the lives of fellow students who had been “born again”, Bob knelt by his bed and committed his life to Christ.  He felt an incredible lifting of guilt and was filled with an intense love for God and others.  During and after college, God confirmed his calling on Bob’s life through a variety of leadership opportunities and fruitfulness in ministry.  In 1983, he became the associate pastor for Pastor Bill Stonebraker at Calvary Chapel Honolulu, overseeing the youth, college/singles, radio ministry and administration ministries.

During this time, Bob met his lovely wife, Becky, and married in 1987.  Desiring further training, Bob and Becky left Hawaii for Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary in Massachusetts where he graduated with a Master of Divinity.  It was also during this formative time that Bob became convinced of the immense value of personal discipleship.   He was able to implement and focus primarily on leadership development and discipleship while ministering at a church in New York.  While in New York, the Lord graciously blessed Bob and Becky with two handsome sons, Jonathan & Michael.  In 1996, after 10 years of ministry in the northeast, Bob accepted Pastor Bill’s invitation to pastor Calvary Chapel Kauai, an existing but struggling ministry in Kapaa.

Pastor Bob and Becky love what God is doing at Calvary Chapel Kauai through such a wonderful group of friends and staff. Bob places a premium on collegiality and friendship in the church body.  He is gifted in teaching, encouraging and equipping believers, and developing leaders. He also strongly emphasizes evangelism and discipleship and loves helping people grow in their relationship with Christ.  God has blessed CCK beyond anyone’s expectations, recently entrusting the church with 66 acres for ministry development.

In his spare time, Pastor Bob loves going on dates with Becky and spending time with his sons.  An avid outdoor enthusiast, he really enjoys doing the things his teenage sons love doing:  surfing, camping, hunting, hiking, and running.

 Pastor Bruce Baumgartner

Bruce was born in Chicago, and grew up in Palatine, Illinois, where he has great memories of ice skating on the lakes and up the creeks in the winter, and camping adventures with the Boy Scouts.  His family moved to Southern California when he was in 9th grade, where he quickly took up surfing and skateboarding.

Although Bruce was raised in a Christian home, it wasn’t until 1975, after attending concerts at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa, that he became “born again.”  Thereafter, he began growing in his Christian faith, and as a freshman at San Diego State University, Bruce soon got involved with the Campus Crusade for Christ ministry.  It was at SDSU where Bruce was discipled, began playing the guitar and leading worship, and met his future wife, Janet Sparks.  He graduated in 1982 with a B.S. in Business Administration, and married Janet the following year.

After seven years as a business owner, Bruce entered full-time ministry at Calvary Chapel Poway, where he was ordained as a pastor in January of 1989.  He served in a few other churches before moving to Kauai in 2003 to serve alongside Pastor Bob Hallman at Calvary Chapel Kauai.  Bruce and Janet have two married children: Becky, who lives in Kauai with her husband, Noah Hamilton; and Luke, who is currently living in South Korea with his wife, Lindsey.

Pastor Bruce is multi-talented and uses his gifts at CCK as worship leader and as the associate and mission’s pastor.  He also serves on the Board of Directors of the church and KESU Radio, and teaches a course at the Kauai Bible College. Pastor Bruce’s joyful enthusiasm is contagious and warms the hearts of all those around him.

In his spare time, Bruce enjoys playing guitar and drums, singing, and songwriting.  Although he hung up his skateboard long ago, you can still find him out there surfing.  In addition to riding waves, Bruce likes to hike, snorkel, kayak, and cruise around the island with Janet on his Honda Shadow motorcycle.

Pastor Josh Turansky

Pastor Josh Turansky loves working with young adults. He has been in the field of education management since 2001 and pioneered the start up of Kauai Bible College in 2007 teaching 20-30 students each semester since then. His desire is to integrate faith and education to empower the next generation of leaders for Christ.  Josh, age 28, has been married to his beautiful wife Melinda since 2002. Together they have three children: Hudson, Hayden, and Hanale Hope.

Josh has a strong Christian faith and has gifts of teaching, leadership, organization, and vison. He grew up in a Christian home where his Dad and Grandpa were pastors. Josh was homeschooled from the middle of first grade through twelfth grade. His family spent nine months in Kenya, East Africa while Josh was in high school. This international experience deeply influenced his outlook on life.

Before coming to Kauai, Josh served as an administrative assistant at Calvary Chapel Bible College in Murrieta, California. There Josh oversaw the Community Outreach class, missions department, and taught a class on prayer.

When Josh is not spending time with his family or leading the Bible College he enjoys reading, writing and cooking Indian food.
