4:30 pm – Intermediate/Advanced

The Hōano Hula Ministry is to uplift the name of the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ our Savior, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort with the dance.

Through the hula our worship, praise and thanksgiving is expressed in the form of graceful motions accompanied by modern musical instruments and songs either in English or Hawaiian offered up to the Lord.

Unlike the traditions of old Hawai’i, when because it was a religious dance, the training of ancient hula dancers at the halau hula (hula school) was strict in that students followed elaborate rules of conduct (kapu) and had to obey their teacher (kumu). For example, dancers could not cut their hair or nails, certain foods were forbidden, along with other restrictions enforced.

This hula ministry embraces and is teaches all those desiring to learn this form of worship, which is through dance.
